Analysis

Everything a ride file can tell you

Upload your rides and Better By Training does the analysis, then helps you find any ride again.

  • 1234Climb

    Laps, intervals, climbs and more

Your device laps, plus hard intervals and interval sets, climbs, descents, steady efforts, surges, stops and late-ride fade, found automatically and listed with the ride.

  • Bulk upload

Drop in FIT files from Garmin, Wahoo and other devices, or a zip of a Garmin or Strava export. Each ride is analysed as it arrives.

  • Every ride, sorted your way

Sort and filter by date, distance, time, NP, IF, TSS and RPE, and search inside their notes. Switch between a list and a grid of power and elevation profiles.

    The numbers that matter

Power, heart rate, NP, IF and TSS for every ride. No power? hrTSS from heart rate instead.

  • Zones, pacing and decoupling

Time in power and heart rate zones, how evenly you paced, and how far heart rate drifted from power.

  • 5s1m5m20m1h5 min · 264 W

    Power curve and season bests

Best efforts from seconds to hours against your season bests, and W' balance through the ride.

Fitness and planning

Plan the season, then see how it went

Fitness, fatigue and form from every ride, projected forward from the plan.

  • Fitness, fatigue and form

Training load builds into fitness, fatigue, form and ramp rate, projected forward from your planned workouts.

  • BaseBuildPeakTaperA raceform +15

    Season planner

Add A, B and C races, phases and weekly TSS targets, and see your projected form on race day. The build helper lays out the weeks to a race.

  • Calendar and workout builder

Build structured workouts, save them as templates, and see planned against completed with compliance at a glance.

  • Reusable training plans

Save weeks of training as a multi-week plan, preview it on the calendar, apply it, and undo it if you change your mind.

  • Volume and progress

See your volume for any period, whether your FTP, bests and aerobic efficiency are moving, and compare one period with another.

Routes

Routes that know the training

Better By Training makes the route for you. Loops, A to B, or there and back by other roads, drawn along real roads and picked for the session, the weather and your own roads. Each one goes to your device as a course.

Sweet spot 3x123 of 3 reps fit

Routes that fit the workout

Three 12-minute stretches of flat, unbroken road

For a 3x12 sweet spot session, Better By Training looks for a loop with room for every rep at your pace, and marks each one on your device: start rep 1, end rep 1.

Any shape
A loop, A to B, or out to a café and back by different roads, with the way out and back in two colours.
Wind
Loops that go out into the wind and come home with it, from the forecast for the session's day.
Your own roads
Somewhere new, your favourite roads, or your usual climbs on a hilly day, from years of your rides.
A read of each loop
Quiet lanes, two climbs at 18 and 31 km, the best interval stretch at 4-11 km. Sent with the route.
Plan in plain words
Type "60 km from the café in Stirling, flat for intervals" and get the loops.
3D preview
See a planned loop on 3D terrain before you ride it.
Draw your own
Tap points that snap to roads, or bend a loop through a place you want to pass.
Turn-by-turn cues
Left, right and straight on cues in the course file, so the device calls each turn.
Cleaner loops
Dead-end spurs trimmed out before you see a loop.
Share links
Send a route to anyone with a link, no account needed.
Courses in the browser
Course files written on your own device, the same way Better By Training reads ride files.

For coaches

All your athletes at once

See who needs you today, then open any athlete with the same tools they use.

OverviewAll athletes
  • Smart alerts

A daily scan flags no rides lately, nothing planned, missed workouts, low form, fast ramps, a stale or out of date FTP, a race without a plan, failed uploads and reports due. Each alert resolves itself once it clears.

  • A history of every change

Uploads, plan changes, FTP changes, notes, reports and alerts are all logged, each with a link straight to it.

Coach mode
All your clients' overview, activities, calendar, volume and progress, side by side.
Client profiles and access
Give each person view, comment, plan or manage access. Add a client before they join and invite them by email.
Quiet notifications
Notifications stay quiet by default. A daily digest email sums up each athlete's rides, missed workouts and alerts.
Shareable links
Each client has their own URL you can share.

Notes and reports

Notes that keep the context

A running log for each athlete, with the chart in it, and reports built from it.

  • A running notes log

Capture a chart clip or a quote of the numbers into the athlete's notes, on a ride or in the log. Share it with the coach or keep it private.

  • Notebook reports

Text, chart, clip, metrics and "what changed" cells. Draft text with AI, keep private coach notes, then publish.

  • Interactive reports, built from your notes

Pick notes by hashtag or date and Better By Training builds them into an interactive report automatically. Athlete and coach write notes on the report, and AI can summarise the thread.

  • Publish history

Every publish is kept as a version you can open or restore.

  • Report templates

Start from a weekly check-in, monthly review, race debrief or block review.

AI, MCP and API

More time for the analysis

The admin of coaching goes to Better By Training and the AI assistant you already use, so your time goes on reading the rides and deciding what comes next.

Better By Training and your AI assistant

  • The inbox

Every note is read for questions nobody has answered, to-dos and concerns, and cleared once someone replies.

  • Emails into notes

With a Gmail or Google Workspace connector, Claude files athlete emails into their notes, once each.

  • The morning briefing

Alerts, what changed overnight and what's waiting on you, in one ask.

  • First drafts

Report sections and note summaries, written from the athlete's own rides and notes.

  • Finding things

Search by meaning and by time: "knee october" finds the notes about it, whenever they were written.

You

  • Reading the rides

The charts, the trends and what they mean for this athlete.

  • Deciding the plan

    What comes next, and why.

  • The conversation

Talking it through with the athlete, on the ride itself.

  • Signing off

Drafts stay drafts until you publish them.
